all things hawaiian...

soooo...back in august i booked a trip to visit my dear friend beana in hawaii. it was a hard decision because hawaii is known for its terrible weather, ugly scenery, mean people, etc etc etc...but i decided to go anyway. =)ok, i've never heard hawaii described as any of those things, but it was still a tough decision, because the thought of leaving my students 3 days before thanksgiving vacation did not make me very comfortable. anyways, i kept my flight, made it to hawaii and it was awesome. it was definitely an appreciated vacay from my kids at school. we drove all over the island and i've had my fill, at least for a little while, of all things hawaiian. here's a few pics from the trip.

laie temple in all its beauty.

swap meet at the stadium in honolulu. every saturday. its a must. running into an old EFY participant was an added bonus.

stop by the dole pineapple plantation and hug a pineapple!

north shore. beautiful surf at the ever-so-famous pipeline.

my favorite view from diamond head. totally worth the short hike.

me with another view from diamond head, in the rain.

melona bars are absolutely outstanding. pick 'em up at your local HI convenience stores and gas stations.

bay area shout out...side note: i'm so excited to be in hawaii that i bet you had no idea that i totally fell and gored myself on the pictured pineapple plant shortly before this picture was taken.

glorious north shore beaches.

a walk around turtle bay.

the best thai food on the island. may be worth the cost of the flight itself. (ok, not really, but i'm a thai food snob and EVEN i thought it was very tasty.)

taken holding the camera outside the car on the freeway. go me.

on the beach outside the moana surfrider resort in waikiki.

seattle

the homecoming game ended at about 5:45 PM on friday november 9th. two hours later i was at the airport and then on a plane. over the veterans day holiday i joined my closest friends for a weekend getaway to seattle, WA to celebrate sheila's 30th birthday. 11 girls, 2 hotel rooms, the space needle, ride the ducks, shopping, massages, great food, scenery and the experience in general were all lovely. why seattle? the birthday girl wanted to go somewhere she'd never been and the tickets were fairly priced. all around it was a fabulous way to celebrate this sweet girl and get some girl-time and relaxation in after spirit week with my crazy seniors. im a lucky girl. =)

spirit week shennanigans...

no, this is NOT what i wore during spirit week.

but the picture above was how it all started. the seniors theme for spirit week was "disneyland" and so naturally their skit had mickey & minnie being kidnapped, etc, etc, etc. once the other senior class advisor and myself agreed to play the parts, this was the costume design they emailed me. i appreciated their effort on my behalf, but needless to say, that was a big fat, "um, no." i mean, she forgot her bloomers! i found some fabric, made my own skirt, and the kids rounded up the gloves & ears for me.
so, here is my version of minnie mouse
